What to Do After an Accident

If you’re involved in a car accident, follow these steps:

• Stay calm.
• Make sure you and your passengers are OK, move out of traffic if possible, and activate your hazard warning lights or set flares.
• Call the police or the appropriate emergency number to report the accident.
• Contact your insurance company to report the claim.
• Do not admit fault. Only discuss the accident with the police and your claims representative.
• Write down the names, addresses, phone numbers, and license plate numbers for all drivers and witnesses. Ask drivers for their insurance company name and policy number.
